Massive Snowfall Could Impact Parts Of Texas This Week

Temperatures are set to plunge late Monday and through the middle of the week as an artic front is sweeping across the United States as soon, Texas.

The polar vortex that is heading our way will bring the coldest temperatures of the season to Texas with many parts of the state seeing temperatures fall below freezing for parts of the week and not only in the overnight areas.

Temperatures Set To Plunge Across Texas

Monday's high temperatures will range from 45 degrees in Lubbock and Amarillo to 40 degrees in Dallas-Fort Worth to 50 degrees in Austin to 47 degrees in Houston. Monday night temperatures will fall below freezing from the Panhandle to Houston. Tuesday's highs will range from 34 degrees in Amarillo to 39 degrees in Lubbock and 41 in Dallas Fort Worth. Temperatures will continue to fall both overnight and during the day for the next several days during the polar vortex.

The Polar Vortex Could Bring Snow To Parts of Texas

Yes, it's true, Texas could see snow. In fact some forecast models show parts of Texas getting a massive amount of snow by Friday, though that was only one model.

As of this writing, snow could fall from the Amarillo area to the Lubbock area, across I-20 and even in the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex. DFW could see snow amounts by Friday around 5 inches. Snow and of freezing rain could be in the forecast for areas as far south as Austin.

Lubbock forecasts so far have the Hub City seeing anywhere from freezing rain to an inch or two of snow by the end of the week. Of course, it's hard to forecast snow and a change in degree or two could through it all off.

According to Texas Storm Chasers, a potential winter storm with snow could impact parts of Texas beginning Wednesday evening through Thursday.

No Promises of Snow, But Be Prepared

While yes, some parts of Texas could see snow, there is still plenty of time for the forecasts to change or for some areas to just miss out on the snow. Still, best to be prepared, and if you traveling, be sure to check Texas road conditions.
