On Thursday (June 7), a Lubbock woman was sentenced to 99 years in prison for the murder of a 4-year-old child.

The child, Alyrah Sanchez, died in November 2015 after Yvonne Gonzales, who was dating the child's father, told police she choked on food and stopped breathing. In reality, investigators found that the child died from blunt force trauma.

Court records say that Gonzales showed no remorse, and her concern that day was for herself. Gonzales’ plea deal was accepted on May 17th, 2018.

According to Everything Lubbock, Gonzales' defense attorney had asked jurors to give her a 30-year sentence.
