Lubbock Woman Plans Methamphetamine Drug Deal While in Jail

A Lubbock woman was caught setting up a drug deal while in the Lubbock County Detention Center.

Thirty-five-year-old Angelica Nicol Riojas pleaded guilty on Thursday, August 12, to distribution and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

In January 2021, undercover officers with the Texas Department of Public Safety purchased meth from a suspected source. Three men were there for the deal, Joshua Wayne Stone, Eddie Guadalupe Rivera, and Jared Lee Henry. EverythingLubbock reports all three of them pleaded guilty to drug charges related to the incident.

During the bust, authorities seized approximately 6.7 pounds of methamphetamine, nearly 1 pound was delivered to one of the undercover agents, and another 2.6 kilograms were found in a vehicle owned by one of the men.

During the incident, officers discovered Riojas had called Stone several times before the deal from the Lubbock County Detention Center, not knowing that the calls were saved in jail records. A playback of the calls revealed Riojas introducing Stone to Rivera and discussion about the drug deal.

A search of Stone's cellphone revealed a text message from a Mexican phone number saying they were Riojas' friend and they trusted Stone and Rivera with the drugs.

As of the writing of this article, a judge has not accepted the guilty plea and is still pending. If accepted, Riojas faces up to 20 years in prison and up to $1 million in fines.

A search of jail records showed years of charges and arrests including felon in possession of a firearm, no driver's license, and parole violations.
