It's all my fault.

This weekend, I spent my Saturday taking care of a list of honey-do's that I had set out for myself, including mowing the lawn, washing our cars and sweeping our front and back porch to create an ideal life-scape. Everything looked pristine and clean. I was happy. Life was perfect. I felt young and alive.

And then, we all got a not-so-subtle reminder that we still live in Lubbock.

Awwww, crap.

I should have known better. After all, in Lubbock you can't stop the dust; you can only hope to contain it. And even that's literally impossible.

For most Lubbockites, the wind storm on Sunday was simply one of inconvenience. Blowing trash cans and disheveled coiffures were the biggest threats to society.  However, on the outskirts of town where there's a lot of loose dust, this caused Lubbock's air to go from smooth to chunky style, especially in areas near new development and where new home construction encroaches into the West Texas Dust Supply.

We also shared these images from Casa de Ballance on the Awesome 98 Facebook page, where more than a few people also decided to share in our misfortune.

The best reactions are the ones from people out of town, asking if their friends here are okay. Ummm...yeah? Of course we are. We're kinda used to this.

I was also impressed by my neighbor, using a leaf blower to clear off his front porch, right up until his wife came running out of their to let him know that he'd left the garage door open, and that he was blowing al of that dirt into the garage. Great idea in theory, but poor in execution.

So, as we begin to make the turn into fall, and the temperatures begin to descend, we will grab our brooms and clean up, waiting for the next sandblasting job that West Texas brings us.

Also, memo to my neighbors who just stained their west-facing fence...you probably need to apply another coat.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to wash my car...again.

Texas is booming, and as more people move here, they'll be looking at areas like Austin or Houston to settle down. There are plenty of others places they ought to consider, though.

Using data from the U.S. Census Bureau, along with data about home sales and public school ratings, Orchard recently ranked and graded the Top 15 Under the Radar Cities in Texas.

These are unexpectedly good places to make a life for yourself and your family in the Lone Star State. Did your hometown make the list?
