Does Lubbock, Texas, Currently Have Too Many Restaurants?
Is the Hub City filled to the brim with restaurants, good or bad? Are Lubbock citizens drowning in dining establishments or are there not enough? This quandary has plagued many minds over the years, myself included. Perhaps a turning point was when a local Lubbockite posted a question to an online forum asking when the city will stop flooding citizens with more and more restaurants.
Too Many Choices or Not Enough?
The post was removed shortly after, perhaps do to fear of big restaurant refusing to give that person free dinner rolls, but the debate had already begun.
Well, KFYO was curious and decided to take a slice of cake from this argument as well. What they found was, well, quite the opposite. It turns out that many Lubbock citizens actually think we are MISSING important dining establishments.
After doing some digging, it turns out that, according to the Lubbock Chamber, the city has about 131 "restaurants". I use quotes because this also includes bars, cafes, and entertainment venues. This means that you have 131 decisions to make each day when considering dining out for dinner.

But wait, you still have to take into account all the unique locations that have closed. For instance, in 2024, at least 46 businesses have shut their doors for good.
So, after saying all that, let's take a look at what actual Lubbock citizens had to say about whether the city has either too many restaurants or not enough, as well as what specifically they would like to see hit their neighborhoods.
