The Texas Department of Transportation announced the details of a new “Outer Loop” after concluding a lengthy study.

At the Friday, November 14, meeting of the Lubbock Metropolitan Planning Organization, TxDOT presented the final Lubbock Outer Route report which said initial construction of a four-lane divided highway creating a half-circle around Lubbock could be completed by 2030.

The first phase of the Outer Route, a feasibility study, concluded in 2010.

The proposed highway would start at US Highway 84 south of Lubbock travel westbound looping Wolfforth. It would then turn north and cross 19th Street before stopping at FM 2641 and US highway 84 north of Lubbock.

According to the report, the long range planning for the construction of the Outer Route would mirror the construction of Spur 327 in southwest Lubbock.
