Texas Man Claims Assault Was ‘Educational’ Before 20-Year Sentence
A man in Lubbock was recently sentenced to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting an 18-year-old family member.
Who is William Keehn?
46-year-old William Thomas Keehn received the maximum sentence for sexually assaulting a family member who was just 18-years-old at the time.
The sentencing resulted from what happened over six years ago where Keehn assaulted the woman multiple times, but he claimed it was all for educational purposes only.
What Really Happened to Land Keehn in Prison?
During an interview with investigators, Keehn admitted that he was sexually attracted to the family member first when she was just 16 and the two shared a vulnerable moment together. She had told him she didn't feel attractive, and he attempted to comfort her.
Shortly after this, Keehn purchased lingerie and a sex toy that he said was a prank gift. However, he then proceeded to demonstrate to the girl on how to use it. Keehn claimed he was strictly doing this to teach her and that his emotions were left out of the events.
Then, when the girl turned 18, Keehn admitted that the two slept together after the two were drunk because he was "trying to get the teen to be comfortable with sex," the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal reports.
Keehn claimed that he stopped assaulting the girl because it was clear that she was not enjoying what he was doing, but the girl complained to family about some pain while going to the bathroom, and her mother took her to the doctor.
Keehn on Parole in Lubbock
The 46-year-old has spent the last six years on probation as he awaited his sentencing. He has continued to work at his job as a sprinkler system designer where he claimed he has not been in any relationship the entire time.
Firsthand accounts about his character were taken from his boss who stated his shock in discovering the charges. He claimed Keehn is a hard worker and very respectful to the female employees at the workplace.
Judge's Sentencing Towards William Keehn
The judge presiding over Keehn's trial was less forgiving, punishing him with the highest sentence possible of 20 years. Prosecutors in the case also claimed that the community was unsafe with him outside of prison.
In addition to the 20-year sentence, Keehn will have to register as a sex offender for life.
