A Lubbock High School educator has been named the winner of a very prestigious award. The National Speech and Debate Association have officially announced Tim Doty the Diamond Coach Award. This award recognizes Doty's excellence and longevity in speech and debate education, it's also his first Diamond Award.

The National Speech and Debate Association is the national authority when it comes to public speaking and debate in the interscholastic setting across the United States. The Diamond Award is awarded to coaches that are members of the National Speech and Debate Association for at least five years and earned at least 15,000 points through the national honorary participation system. National Speech and Debate Executive Director J. Scott Wunn states that Diamond Award winners provide access to the life changing benefits of speech and debate for thousands of students.

The winners for the Diamond Award will be recognized during the Donus D. Roberts Diamond Assembly at the National Speech and Debate Tournament in Des Moines, Iowa in June 2024. There will be more than 10,000 students, coaches, and parents from across the U.S. attending this National Tournament.
