Lubbock Snowstorm -- December 8th, 2018

Snow began to fall across Lubbock late Friday night, and in many areas has exceeded the 1-4 inches that was predicted.

The snow also had an impact on local events. Organizers of the Miracles Christmas Parade announced that tonight's parade has been canceled. The City of Lubbock announced that all community centers in the city will remain closed today. All City of Lubbock Libraries will open at 1 p.m., and the Lubbock Animal Shelter will also open at 1 p.m.

As of 9:35 a.m., the Lubbock Police Department had responded to fewer than 12 wrecks but had several reports of motorists needing assistance. The department recommended that everyone stay off the roads this morning.

Snowfall across the city is expected to end around noon on Saturday with highs expected to remain in the upper 30s. Snow that does melt could re-freeze tonight, meaning hazardous conditions overnight and into Sunday morning.
