A Lubbock detective is set to receive an award from the South Plains Coalition for Child Abuse Prevention.

Detective Kyle Purdue with the Lubbock Police Department is receiving the 2020 Cherish the Children Award.

The award is given annually to proven advocates for child safety and child abuse prevention. Detective Purdue will be given the award during a ceremony on Tuesday, July 14th, 2020 at Citizens Tower in Lubbock.

Those planned to speak on the issue of child abuse prevention in Lubbock County include Mayor Dan Pope, Senator Charles Perry, and Lubbock Representative John Frullo.
