Lubbock Couple Faces Life in Prison for Death of Infant
A Lubbock woman faces up to life in prison for the death of her infant son.
Madison Rodriguez was only 18 years old when she was arrested in 2015, along with her boyfriend at the time, 21-year-old Charles Flournoy. Rodriguez's infant son, Mason, died after being injured at home in June 2015.
The couple told police different stories: that Mason had fallen off a counter, that Charles had dropped him, and that Madison had forcefully thrown Mason to the ground during an argument.
Rodriguez told police she didn’t take Mason to the hospital because she was wanted to avoid an expensive medical bill. She was indicted for capital murder and later indicted for domestic violence with a deadly weapon and injury to a child.
Flournoy was charged with injury to a child but was able to post bond in 2016. He was later arrested several times for different charges and remains in the Lubbock County Detention Center.
Both face up to life in prison if convicted. Rodriguez's trial began on Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2020.
