On Monday, August 26, the Lubbock County Commissioner’s Court discussed the ongoing search for a new medical examiner.

The current medical examiner, a company called NAAG Pathology Labs based out of California, has a contract with Lubbock County set to expire on October 1st.

Monday, Chief Medical Examiner for Tarrant County, Dr. Nizam Peerwani, advised the Court on how they should proceed. Tarrant County's Medical Examiners Office is actually a district that serves three additional counties: Parker, Denton, and Johnson.

According to County Judge Curtis Parrish, the Court has decided they will likely hire a licenced physician to replace NAAG Pathology Labs as the County Medical Examiner.

But because a physician cannot perform full autopsies, Lubbock County will outsource autopsies to forensic pathologists in Tarrant County, at least for the foreseeable future.
