Speed cameras will not be coming to school zones in Lubbock County following a decision by the Lubbock County Commissioners Court.

The Commissioners voted 4-0 Monday morning against the proposal offered by American Traffic Solutions. Lubbock County Judge Tom Head was absent for the vote.

American Traffic Solutions is the company that supplied the red light cameras that were installed at Lubbock intersections in 2008, and removed a short time later.

ATS offered to install the cameras to check the speed of motorists in school zones, and said that the County could make millions of dollars per year with their use.
