Enrollment for Lubbock Christian University remains above 2,000 students for the fourth consecutive year.

According to the office of the registrar, LCU’s fall enrollment is 2,002 students, a slight decrease from their fall 2012 enrollment.

The university says that they believe that one of the contributing factors for their enrollment figures is the elimination of remaining junior varsity sports teams. LCU’s move to NCAA Division II necessitated the move sooner or later.

“We believe that the NCAA transition fits very well with our long term academic goals,” said Dr. Brian Starr, executive vice president. “The elimination of JV sports will be positive for the university in the long term, but we are undoubtedly experiencing some short term challenges during the transition.”

The LCU honors program enrolled a record number of students and the university recorded stronger retention results across the university for the second consecutive year.
