Numerous grants have been given to different area communities by a popular charity.

The Lubbock-area affiliate of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure has announced grants to eight community programs to support local breast health education and breast cancer screening and treatment programs.

The American Cancer Society’s “Reach to Recovery” program has been given just over $13,000, Covenant Health System’s Mobile Mammography unit has been given nearly $76,000, UMC Foundation’s Breast Cancer Prevention, Diagnosis, and Treatment unit has been given over $70,000, and the YWCA of Lubbock’s Breast and Cervical Health Initiative has been given nearly $108,000.

Other organizations that received funds include the Joe Arrington Cancer Center, and the Texas AgriLife Extension Service.

Lubbock’s Komen for the Cure awarded over $318,500 to this year’s grant recipients.
