On Saturday, May 11, the Bullock Texas State History Museum will be opening a new exhibition celebrating the lowriding culture in Texas. The exhibition is called Carros y Cultura: Lowriding Legacies in Texas.

The bilingual exhibition will highlight the rich culture of the Texas lowriding communities. Those who attend will see artifacts, interactive experiences, an of course lowrider cars and bicycles. The lowriders come from San Antonio, Austin, Dallas, Houston, Pecos, Laredo, and more.

On display will be seven lowrider cars, five bikes, and artifacts from music, fashion and lowrider history.

“Immensely creative and endlessly kind, Texas lowriders stand out among a larger car culture that is admired and imitated worldwide,” said Kathryn Siefker, senior curator at the Bullock Museum.

Carros y Cultura will be on view at the Bullock Museum from May 11 to September 2. According to a press release from Bullock Museum, an iconic lowrider car will be on display with other vehicles.

Lowrider cars featured in the exhibition include a gold-plated ’63 Chevy Impala, a pristine example of one of the most iconic lowrider vehicles. Also on display will be a 1986 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme customized with a mural of famed Mexican ranchera singer Vicente Fernández.

In addition to lowrider cars, there will be a number of lowrider bikes, including a 1972 Schwinn Fastback that as been customized.
