The Llano Estacado Silver Star Board will be receiving donations from the General Federation of Women's Clubs on Thursday, April 22nd, according to KAMC News.

The LESSB is a non-profit organization that claims to support clients of Adult Protective Services. The organization serves around 660 clients every year in Lubbock and the surrounding area. The types of clients served are usually those 65 or older or those 18 and older with disabilities that have been identified by APS as having been abused, neglected or exploited.

The LESSB provides assistance by helping with rent, utility payments, previsions of heaters or conditioners, bus passes, ramps, unusual dental needs, pet care, home repairs and much more.

In their news release, the LESSB describes "Elder Abuse" as a hidden issue in society. Elder Abuse is physical abuse, sexual abuse, exploitation, neglect and abandonment of an elderly person. They say that the perpetrators of Elder Abuse include children, other family members, spouses and friends and even staff at nursing homes.

The release goes on to say elder abuse could be missed by professionals working with older residents due to lack of awareness and training on detecting abuse.

The presentation for the donation will take place on Thursday, April 22nd at the Cotton Court Hotel at 1 p.m. Lubbock's Cotton Court Hotel is located at 1610 Broadway Street.
