The Lubbock County Elections Office on Friday evening issued unofficial results for the Lubbock ISD District 1 race ending in a tie at 747 votes for both incumbent Mario Ybarra and challenger Lala Chavez.

Chavez led the early voting 574-544, but Ybarra came back to win election day 203-173. The tie triggers a recount of the votes cast in the election along with any provisional and military ballots with the possibility of a second election if there is still a tie. Both candidates could also agree to a coin flip to decide the election in lieu of a second election.

The elections office also sent out final election totals for the other LISD School Board elections where Scot Mayfield won District 5 and District 2 will feature a runoff between Bill Stubblefield and LaCarl Richardson.
