Krista Gerlich Had a Pretty Good First 24 Hours
If Krista Gerlich's first 24 hours is any indication of how her tenure will go Lady Raider fans are in for a rocket ascent to greatness.
In Gerlich's introductory press conference she talked straight to the team and told them she wanted to build relationships with them. Gerlich's main objective is to empower young women. That seems like a given for a women's basketball coach but something that the former regime didn't do, which is why the two leading scorers from last season were intending to transfer from the university.
Yesterday, after meeting one on one with Coach Gerlich, they announced that they both will be staying in Lubbock to remain Red Raiders. For Gerlich that has to feel like two gigantic transfers picking you as their coach. A great first step in your first official day as the Lady Raiders coach. The news was of course confirmed by Red Raider Nation's David Collier.
Gerlich's great first day didn't stop there. A four-star commit, who didn't have UTA or Texas Tech in her top-four, committed to the Red Raiders via her twitter account. The class of 2021 product averaged 16.8 points, 10 rebounds, 2.3 steals and 2.0 assists last season. Embry is the number 81 overall prospect and number 14 forward in her signing class, according to ESPN.
But wait, there's more! The Lady Raider got a transfer announcement last night after Bryn Gerlich, an Oklahoma State guard, announced she'd be transferring to Texas Tech to play for Coach Gerlich. Yes, Bryn is Coach Gerlich's daughter.
In the announcement Bryn Gerlich, a junior, shared photos of the Gerlich family and said that playing for her mother is a dream come true saying, "I get to play for the woman who inspired me to pursue my dream in basketball." Truly special.
As a wise man once said, "I got to say it was a good day."
The good news continued for Gerlich today as her contract got ironed out. Those numbers were released by none other than our friend Collier:
Collier joined Ryan Hyatt's Raiderland to talk about the first 48 hours of Gerlich's tenure and contract details. Listen to the complete interview here:
