Sadly, We No Longer Hire For These Jobs in Texas
Texas is known for it's bustling economy and hub for businesses, but there are some jobs that simply ceased to exist as the years went on.
Thanks to advancements in technology, there are some tasks that humans no longer need to be in charge of. In fact, studyworkgrow.com put together a list of jobs that have become obsolete.
Below are some of the top jobs in Texas that no longer exist, for better or for worse.
Pin Setters
Pre-1950s, bowling alleys would require a human, usually a teenager, to stack the pins after each throw. I'm all for this. We should actually bring this back as a way for youngsters to make a few bucks on the weekend.
Knocker-Uppers
No... It's not what you think. The duties of these individuals included using a long stick to tap the window of houses to wake up the owners in bed. Honestly, sounds pretty annoying and I think it would make people wake up angry a lot, myself included.
Switchboard Operators
Another more recent moot job. I'm sure you know all about these workers, but in essence, they would control the switchboards whenever you made a phone call to connect you to the other line.
Lectors
Another favorite of mine. Lectors were hired to read to factory workers so they wouldn't be bored to death all day. Sometimes it would be the daily news, other times it would be more entertaining content like story books. I know that I would just read everyone comic books and do a poor job of describing what's happening in each panel.
Lift Operators
I would have LOVED to be a lift operator if nothing more than to awkwardly stand in a cramped metal cube for 30 to 60 seconds with strangers as jazz music softly plays overhead. The tension built in these situations would be so delicious as I ask those coming on board what floor, and we then continue to stare blankly at the closed doors.
