The legendary Jim Stewart, former KFYO Ag Director and beloved voice in Texas radio, passed away yesterday, June 4, 2026.

His family says that he was surrounded by loved ones and passed peacefully at home.

Jim Stewart's Lasting Legacy

Stewart was a voice for West Texas agriculture and joined KFYO as Farm Director in 1981. This began a remarkable run of more than 20 years at KFYO.

He hosted his final KFYO show on February 21, 2003, and returned to Lubbock radio in 2005, serving as Ag Director for AM 580 KRFE for several years.

A dedicated Texas Tech supporter, Jim was one of the early tailgaters in the 1980s. He was also widely known for his big heart and longtime support of the Texas Boys and Girls Ranch.

Texas House Speaker Dustin Burrows also shared his condolences to Stewart's family in a post to Facebook, calling him a "trusted voice across the South Plains."

 

 

Thank you, Jim, for being a trusted and reassuring voice for so many years on KFYO and beyond. Rest in peace. KFYO extends its deepest sympathy to Jim Stewart’s family and friends.

This is an update from the family with regard to funeral services and visitation:
"We will host a visitation at Resthaven in Lubbock on Tuesday, June 9th, from 5:00-7:00. Funeral will be Wednesday, June 10th, at 10:00, at Lone Star Cowboy Church, located at 1309 E FM 1585, Lubbock, TX 79423. Burial to follow at Resthaven.
