If you are a fan of stargazing, tonight, December 28, 2022, will be a great night to do so. Not only will you see a sky full of stars, but you’ll be able to see every planet in our solar system (except earth, of course).

Events like this happen around every one to two years and are a great opportunity to see our solar system all together. Five of the planets will be visible with the naked eye, while two will require binoculars or a telescope.

Venus, Mercury, Saturn, Jupiter, and Mars will be lined up in the sky in that order with Mercury being visible with the naked eye if conditions are dark enough. You’ll be able to spot Uranus between Mars and Jupiter with a pair of binoculars, and Neptune will be visible with a telescope between Saturn and Jupiter.

Don’t worry if you can’t see all of it this time, because you will see all the planets again in a couple of years. However, it is still a beautiful thing to see, especially for those that enjoy various astronomical events. Also, this specific arrangement of the planets hasn't happened since 1864, making it a rare occurrence.

If there is too much light pollution in Lubbock to clearly see the planets, I suggest driving out to one of the smaller towns outside of the city to get a better look. You can find more information about the event available at space.com.

If you're looking to sip on something warm while looking at the planets tonight, you can grab some hot chocolate from one of the following spots:
