A Surprising Way to Keep Texas Mosquitoes at Bay

With all of the rain we’ve been seeing in Texas this spring, we already have lots of mosquitos popping up and harassing anyone that dares step foot outside.

While some of us a blessed with a natural ability to not attract mosquitos, others are not so fortunate and end up absolutely swarmed, itching and swelling from all the bites the following day. This means that you have to douse yourself in bug spray, surround the space you’re in with citronella, and hope for the best.

While those things definitely can help, many people don’t like the smell of citronella, and the sticky feeling after applying a bunch of bug spray is less than ideal.

Fortunately, there are some other solutions that are less harsh, and can actually be a lot of fun for the whole family.

Something you might not know is that many bugs, including mosquitoes, hate any sort of soap solution. This means that blowing bubbles actually acts as a great mosquito repellant. I learned this from a friend this past weekend, and it truly worked.

We set up a couple of those automatic bubble blowers and let them blow towards where we were sitting. Not only was it fun for the young kids to chase and pop the bubbles, but it really did keep the mosquitos away.

As soon as the soap solution ran out and there weren’t any more bubbles floating around, the mosquitoes came swooping in, looking for blood. Once we got the bubble back up and running, there weren’t nearly as many bugs around.

So, next time you’re hanging outside, try blowing some bubbles to keep away the mosquitoes.
