Footage of The Shearwood Creek Fire in Jasper County and Tyler County has been circulating the internet for nearly a week. 20 or 30 houses were evacuated as it raged on for days.

Luckily, as of August 29th, 2023, no injuries were reported, nor were there reports of any lost structures.

The blaze was said to have been started by a lightning storm, and orginated in the area of CR 3910 and CR 3900 just off of RR 255 in Tyler County. Everyone is very lucky to have made it out safely, thanks to fire rescue teams that came to aid in putting out the flames, not just from local departments, but from all over the United States.

Thank goodness everyone is okay!

The footage reminded me of the massive fire that broke out in Bastrop, Texas in 2011. I was living in Austin at the time, and I watched it from the television at work. A friend of mine lost everything they owned, along with all of their livestock.

There isn't much we can do about lightning, but please be sure to you keep your cigarette butts in the car, and use extreme caution when you're cooking over an open fire or grilling with your pals. It's been a very hot and very dry summer in Texas, and we are all waiting patiently for some moisture. Fingers crossed we get some sweet sweet rain soon!

Were you affected by this fire? I'd like to talk to you. Please email me at Chrissy.Covington@townsquaremedia.com if you'd care to chat about it.

Stay safe out there, y'all!
