Methamphetamine, Currency Seized in Nacogdoches Traffic Stop

A large amount of methamphetamine and currency was seized by Nacogdoches County Sheriff's Deputies during a traffic stop on Friday, February 2. Two people were arrested during the traffic stop.

Jarvis Lanard Taylor, 35, of Nacogdoches, and Rileigh Peyton Windham, 29, of Center, were jailed after Nacogdoches County Sheriff’s Office deputies discovered nearly 5 ounces of methamphetamine in their vehicle during a traffic stop. More than $3,000 in cash, marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and a firearm were also seized.

Deputies were patrolling in the 4000 block of N.E. Stallings Drive around noon Friday when they noticed a silver Dodge Journey SUV speeding and failing to maintain a single lane of travel, at times veering into oncoming traffic.

While speaking with the driver and passenger, deputies learned both had outstanding warrants for parole violations on previous drug possession charges. Both individuals were taken into custody on the warrants.

Taylor, who was the driver, was asked for consent to search the vehicle and declined. Deputies called for the assistance of NCSO K-9 Helo to determine whether drugs were present. A search of the SUV was initiated after a positive alert for the presence of drugs.

Taylor told deputies he was “trying to get clean”; a statement that deputies found contradictory to the marijuana and 4.85 ounces of methamphetamine packaged in separate bags found in the vehicle.

Based on information gathered by NCSO investigators, Taylor is a primary suspect in a months-long and ongoing narcotics investigation into the distribution of narcotics in Nacogdoches County.

Taylor was charged with a first-degree felony for the manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance and a third-degree felony for the unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. Windham was charged with a second-degree felony for possession of a controlled substance.
