It’s Going To Be A Hot And Windy Weekend In Lubbock
Get ready for a taste of Summer this weekend and even into next week in Lubbock and across West Texas. While Friday was a hot one, Saturday and Sunday will be scorchers in and around Lubbock.
Lubbock could see a high around 102-103 on Saturday with temperatures in the Midland area higher than that. Add in windy conditions on Saturday and it will feel pretty terrible outside plus it will be critical fire weather on Saturday and even on Sunday according to the National Weather Service.
On Mother's Day in Lubbock it will be around 100 degrees with windy critical fire danger weather. Hot temperatures will extend into next week, so if you are fan of upper 90's and triple digit heat, you will be very happy.
As I reported earlier in the week, all eyes will be on ERCOT this weekend as the state will see record temperatures all over Texas. The record temperatures will probably lead to record energy use. Thankfully, ERCOT says the grid should be just fine.
According to Austin-based energy consultant Doug Lewin, the Energy Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) is expecting demand for power to reach 69.3 gigawatts on Saturday, May 7 as temperatures in Houston and Dallas hit highs in the low-to-mid '90s and eclipse 100 in towns such as Midland and Laredo.
"This Saturday, ERCOT expects 69.3GW of demand, an insane amount for a weekend in early May," Lewin tweeted Monday, estimating that the figure would likely be a record for energy demand on the state grid in the month of May.
One thing we know for sure, air conditioners will be running this weekend.
