OK, so I haven't been to many college games myself, but I've been to enough to know that you always sing the national anthem before every game. And really, it's a part of the experience that I enjoy, because no matter which team you're rooting for, everyone can join together and sing (or in my case, belt out) our anthem. Well, it looks like my enthusiasm for our anthem isn't shared by every college.

Goshen College in Indiana has replaced the national anthem with "America the Beautiful," as the patriotic song of choice at sporting events. According to administrators, the "rockets' red glare" and "bombs bursting in air" in the original song were deemed "too violent" and went against the college's religious values and pacifist tradition. The decision came when students and alumni complained after an insturmental version of the anthem was played at the college for the first time last year.

There is so much wrong with this story that I don't even know where to start. Should I start with how these "offensive lyrics" would be considered harmless by today's standards? Or how the lyrics weren't even used when the college played the song? Or should I just comment on how ridiculously stupid it is to fly the American flag at a college campus, but refuse to sing the national anthem?

I really hope this doesn't catch on, because it just won't feel the same belting out "America the Beautiful."
