If you are a childless adult that loves Halloween, then I bet you like to go all out and make the holiday as fun and memorable for the kids in your neighborhood. Or maybe that’s just me...
Either way, if you are looking to stand out from your neighbors this year and become THAT house that all the kids want to stop at each year, I have a few tips. Whether it’s through decorations, candy, or a fun experience, there are a few ways to really stand out.
Growing up, one of the most memorable houses in my neighborhood that every kid wanted to go to, made a miniature haunted house in their garage. They would put up curtains to make separate sections of the ‘haunted house’ and you would walk through from one space to the next, seeing spooky props and the occasional jump scare. When you came out at the end, there would be someone dressed up in a crazy costume, handing out candy to each kid that successfully made it through the haunt.
Another really memorable house was one that was so well decorated, you could hardly recognize the home. The family would sit near the front door with a big bucket of candy, but you would have to walk up their driveway through realistic-looking webs, smoke machines, and spooky lights, before making it to their amazingly well-decorated front porch.
The last way to stand out, and the least time-consuming option, is to hand out really good treats. Whether you give out full-sized candy bars, or goodie bags with little toys and trinkets, giving out something other than the typical fun-sized candies is a great way to stand out.
Even if you don’t do anything extravagant this Halloween, I hope you have a great holiday and enjoy seeing all the kiddos walking around in their adorable costumes.
