Monday on The Chad Hasty Show, Chad talked about the escalating tensions between the Lubbock Police Department and District 1 City Councilman Victor Hernandez, as a result of a late July incident involving an illegal immigrant who allegedly stole a police cruiser and badly injured Lubbock police officer Corporal Ryan Durrett.

As previously reported on KFYO.com, after Cpl. Durrett suffered a broken leg and other injuries trying to arrest Jose Carlos Escarcega for theft of a vehicle, Councilman Hernandez posted open comments on Facebook publicly criticizing the conduct of responding officers.

According to KCBD news, Escarcega was charged with first-degree felony count of aggravated assault against a public servant.

Hasty voiced issue with Hernandez's attitude and comments, as he often has in the past when Hernandez has tried to use race and illegal immigrant issues for his own gain.

Hasty said,

When I saw this all break, I was pretty upset. I stayed away from social medial because it is a shame, that we have a member of the Lubbock City Council, that would rather play the race card, and that would rather slam the brave men and women who are on the Lubbock Police force, he would rather do that than stick up for them. He would rather force, or try to force everyone to care that a thug, that a criminal, someone who honestly should not even be in this country ('course Victor didn't bring that up, didn't want to), but he wants us to feel sorry, that this thug who almost murdered a Lubbock police officer and possibly would have done worse since he was sitting next to the body of the officer where a handgun was present, and Councilman Victor Hernandez wants to feel sorry for this guy? Councilman Hernandez is mad that the Lubbock police officers did not politely ask this guy to move away from the body? You know Victor Hernandez has been an embarrassment for this city for a long time. And now he's trying to bring down the Lubbock Police Department.

Hasty continued,

For Victor you know this is just all about race and scoring political points. It goes back to Victor Hernandez and him supporting 'sanctuary cities'. Isn't it sad that we have a member of the Lubbock City Council who seems as though he supports more of the criminal side than he does the Lubbock Police Officers?
