It's not even close to Halloween yet, but why not go ahead and plan.

There might be some scary towns across the Lone Star State, but there isn't an official capital of Halloween yet, but there might be one soon if some city and state officials get their way.

The City of Denton in north Texas hosted what it called, Denton Halloween, for the first time last year. The city transformed its downtown into an epic Halloween destination for the entire month of October. Now the city is working with state officials to become the Official Halloween Capital of Texas.

Denton, TX- The Official Halloween Capital of Texas

According to the Dallas Morning News, State Rep. Richard Hayes filed legislation in February to make the designation a reality. If it were to pass, the designation would last for 10 years, so that's a pretty long commitment from Denton to go into Halloween mode for next 10 years.

The Dallas Morning News reports that last year's 31 days of Denton Halloween brought 660,000 people to the city for the immersive experience. One can only imagine that number will increase with more people knowing about the event and with becoming the Halloween Capital of Texas.

A Statewide Celebration of Culture and Creativity in Halloween, Texas

In a statement, Rep. Hayes said that Denton would also be renaming itself, Halloween, Texas during the month of October and that the celebration isn't just local, but a statewide celebration.

“With the City of Denton’s own proclamation renaming the city ‘Halloween, Texas’ for the month of October, it’s clear that this is more than a local event— it’s a statewide celebration of culture and creativity," said Hayes in a written statement. “I’m honored to carry this resolution forward and ensure that Denton receives the recognition it has earned as Texas’ official Halloween Capital.”

The bill currently sits in the Culture, Recreation, and Tourism committee in the Texas House.
