On the Monday edition of The Chad Hasty Show, GOP strategist and co-founder of MustReadTexas.com Matt Mackowiak talked with Chad Hasty about the latest going on statewide and nationally.

It's a busy week for the Supreme Court this week, as they'll be looking at a number of different cases dealing with major issues like gay marriage and the voting rights act. One of the cases that has already been settled in affirmative action, which was sent back to the appellate courts this morning.

Mackowiak said the court decision wasn't a win or a loss for either side, and that it will be interesting to see how the appellate courts will handle the case now. He also added that race-based admission are outdated now, and that it you have to have affirmative action, it would make more sense to have class-based admission instead of race-based.

Mackowiak also talked about the upcoming statewide election cycle, particularly what Governor Rick Perry will be doing. Perry is expected to make an official announcement concerning whether or not he'll run for governor again later this week. But Mackowiak predicts that he may not run for re-election again.

"My sense is, from everything that I've seen, from the way he [pushed through] the legislative session, what issues he's chosen to focus on...I think there's a very low chance that he's going to run for re-election at this point. I just don't think he's operating in the same way he has in the past by really moving to the right, by sureing up his base, by activating the grassroots, by raising money. He's been much more limited in those way and he's been much more focused on the national stage."
