Former Estacado Matador, and NFL linebacker, Thomas Howard was killed in a multi-car accident in Oakland, California on Monday.  The 30 year-old Howard had played in the NFL for the Oakland Raiders, Cincinnati Bengals and Atlanta Falcons.

Bay Area television station KRON reports that Howard was driving a BMW sedan more than 100 mph at the time of the multi-car accident.

After striking the semi, Howard's BMW then became airborne and crossed the median into the southbound lanes.  The BMW struck two vehicles, killing the driver in one of the vehicles and injuring the driver in a third vehicle.

Howard was born, and raised in Lubbock, and was the son of former NFL player Thomas Howard.

He was a starting linebacker at UTEP in 2004 & 2005 before being drafted by the Oakland Raiders in 2006. Howard was released last week by the Atlanta Falcons
