A flight departing from George Bush International Airport in Houston was about to take off when passengers noticed smoke coming from one of the wings. Eventually, fire could be seen on the plane's right wing, filling the cabin of passengers with smoke.

Houston Plane on Fire

A United Airlines flight was about to take off on the runway in Houston when the fire was quickly spotted by passengers.

Video footage from someone on the flight showed the flame right next to her window on the wing. Flight attendants were attempting to have all the passengers remain seated as the captain halted takeoff to return to the gate.

With the increased smoke filling the cabin and passengers panicking and trying to leave, efforts for calm seating were abandoned, and an emergency slide was used in the back of the plane to safely evacuate the passengers.

FOX 26 received the video from the passenger closest to the fire. In it you can hear the panic from those on the flight along with the attendants trying to calm them down. Take a listen:

Luckily, there were no injuries reported, but many passengers were shaken up from the incident and missed their connecting flights.

The passenger, Ashlyn Sharp, who filmed the video spoke with FOX 26 as she answered questions regarding the event. She stated that, given recent events with the tragic plane crash in Washington D.C., she was especially anxious during the engine issue.

Sharp also stated that she remained positive during the chaos since they remained on the ground and were able to address the issue quickly.

She stated that the crew was finally able to have the passengers evacuate via the emergency slide out of the back of the plane. They then remained on the tarmac for nearly two and a half hours before they were shuttled back to the gate and given re-booked flights.
