An elderly woman remains hospitalized with serious burns after being drug from her burning east Lubbock home Wednesday.  72 year old Danielle Anderson was pulled from her home in the 1800 block of East 26th Street by a teacher from nearby Dunbar Middle School, who saw smoke coming from the house.

Jason Skelton said he had to kick in a door to enter and see who was in danger. Skelton choked on the smoke but was able to grab the woman by the ankles to pull her outside.  Skelton works only blocks from the home at Dunbar Middle School where he started only this month. He worked several years in the Midland school district.

Anderson was taken to UMC where she remains in critical condition. She received severe burns on her neck and face. Investigators believe the fire began when a lamp fell over onto bedding and caught fire.

Dunbar Principal Brian Yearwood praised Skelton’s life-saving action: “This just goes to show the attitude and determination of the people we have in our community.”
