Elderly Man With a Walker Accused of Shoplifting Chased by Police

On Friday, December 17th, Wichita Falls Police were called to Lowe's Home Improvement after an elderly man with a walker was suspected of shoplifting.
When officers arrived at the scene, employees said that an older Black man had put items into the bags on his walker and left the store. They apparently lost sight of him when he left.
One officer spotted an older man with a walker as they were on the way to the scene. When the suspect saw the officer, he started "going faster" across Lawrence Road into the parking lot of a nearby Walmart.
KAMC News reports that as the officer approached the man, he tossed a black duffle bag between 2 cars.
The man was identified as Ernest Gilbert. He denied ever being inside the Lowe's, but when the officer looked through the duffle bag that Gilbert had tossed earlier, they found a tag with Gilbert's name along with 6 tools still in the packaging.
The officer took Gilbert back to Lowe's, and the employees identified him as the thief.
