
Driverless Cars Hit the Road in Texas, Are They Coming to Lubbock Next?
Driverless cars are hitting the roads in Texas and with more and more cars and trucks hitting the roads the Texas legislature has come up with legislation that will put more oversight on the companies and opens the door for more state scrutiny of the autonomous vehicle industry.
Driverless Cars in Austin and Beyond
Waymo and Uber have been rolling out driverless cars in Austin and they aren't hard to miss. The vehicles are decked out in cameras and when you pull up to one at a red light, it takes some getting used to when you see that no one is driving. The driverless vehicles in Austin are only allowed in some places but as the technology improves, you can only imagine that the footprint of these companies will as well.
in fact there is already discussion about having driverless cars in Dallas. The DFW area already has autonomous trucks delivering goods, so cars will be the next step.
Driverless Cars in Lubbock?
Will we see driverless cars here in Lubbock? The short answer is, most likely. As the technology improves, cities like Lubbock, with our wide streets and fewer people clogging those streets will be ideal for driverless vehicles. It may not happen in a matter of months, but I believe we will see driverless cars in Lubbock.

New Texas Laws About Driverless Cars
According to the Houston Chronicle, the Texas Legislature passed legislation requiring autonomous vehicle companies to get state approval before operating without drivers and gives the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles the authority to revoke that approval if safety standards aren't followed.
