This Texas City Is Now Officially The Halloween Capital of Texas
Halloween is just around the corner and did you know you can actually visit the Halloween Capital of Texas? Did you even know there is a city in Texas that has been declared the Official Halloween Capital of Texas?
Denton, Texas, The Halloween Capital of Texas
During this past legislative session, lawmakers worked on quite a few pieces of legislation. Including a resolution naming Denton, Texas as the Halloween Capital of Texas thanks to month-long celebration that began in 2023 according to Southern Living that attracted over 600,000 visitors.
The idea for 31 Days of Halloween originated in late 2023 during a discussion about Christmas decorations on the town square. Noting another North Texas city long ago “cornered the market on Christmas,” Sternbeck says city officials realized there “was probably a better fit” for their community, known for being “North of Ordinary.”
“(Halloween) fits the vibe of our community a little bit better than Christmas,” Sternbeck says, “and we already had a couple of large staple events in the month of October. We have our arts and jazz festival at the beginning of the month and then the Day of the Dead festival at the end of the month.
Basically, the City of Denton throws a month long Halloween party and just has a lot of fun. That's pretty awesome and I wish more cities would find something like this to do.
Texas Legislature Approves
Back in February, State Representative Richard Hayes filed the legislation to make Denton the Halloween Capital. The legislature approved the resolution and it will stick around for 10 years.
