Craigslist Ends All Personal Ads and Some Lubbockites Are Not Happy
I got an interesting message from a Lubbock friend last night who told me that the personals section on Craigslist were gone. I couldn't believe it, but it's true.
Well, this is what happened according to Craigslist.org:
US Congress just passed HR 1865, "FOSTA", seeking to subject websites to criminal and civil liability when third parties (users) misuse online personals unlawfully.
Any tool or service can be misused. We can't take such risk without jeopardizing all our other services, so we are regretfully taking craigslist personals offline. Hopefully we can bring them back some day.
To the millions of spouses, partners, and couples who met through craigslist, we wish you every happiness!
I reached out to several of my Lubbock friends who were actually upset by this. They regularly used the platonic section of the personals section to meet new gaming buddies or just new people to hang out with.
But at the end of the day, if someone posts a questionable ad, Craigslist could be the ones getting into trouble rather than the person who posted it.
What do you think of this change? Let us know.
