Senator John Cornyn joined The Chad Hasty Show on Tuesday to discuss the confirmation hearing of Judge Amy Coney Barrett, COVID-19 relief, and whether or not is attempting to distance himself from President Donald Trump as we get closer to the election.

The issue of Cornyn possibly trying to distance himself from the President came up in recent days after the Fort Worth Star-Telegram published a piece from a editorial board meeting in which Cornyn told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram editorial board that he did have disagreements with President Trump privately, and compared his relationship with Trump to a wife attempting to change her husband.

“maybe like a lot of women who get married and think they’re going to change their spouse, and that doesn’t usually work out very well.”

Senator Cornyn also told the Star-Telegram that when he has differences of opinion, he approaches Trump privately.

“But when I have had differences of opinion, which I have, (I) do that privately,” Cornyn said. “I have found that has allowed me to be much more effective, I believe, than to satisfy those who say I ought to call him out or get into a public fight with him.”

That led many on social media and in the news media to believe that Senator Cornyn was attempting to distance himself from Trump. FOX News released a story on Monday saying Cornyn was trying to distance himself from Trump.

When asked on Tuesday by KFYO's Chad Hasty if that was the case, Cornyn said "absolutely not" and blamed Democrat beltway pundits for creating the story.

"Absolutely not. This is spun up by some of these beltway pundits who are trying to create a narrative to damage the president and to damage Republicans. I'm proud of the work that we've done supporting the president and his agenda with the tax cuts and Jobs Act, more than 200 federal judges and soon a third Supreme Court justice. I think he's taken the country in a strong direction, I look forward to serving with him for four more years."

Cornyn went on to say that he had a good relationship with the President and that he was proud that his voting record was 95% in line with President Trump.
