During Monday's edition of Lubbock's First News on KFYO, Congressman Randy Neugebauer talked about the ongoing problems along the U.S.-Mexico border, and suggested issuing sanctions against Mexico.

Talking about the huge numbers of illegal immigrants, "the problem is Mexico's backdoor is open," Congressman Neugebauer stated. He went on to suggest that sanctions could be a viable option to pressure Mexico into securing their Southern border.

"What I think we're going to have to do to Mexico is get them involved in this and the way you get Mexico involved in this is maybe at some point you impose some economic sanctions on them until they do a better job of helping us control this problem. They're a facilitator here, and if any other country was facilitating this kind of activity I think we'd be taking some actions," Congressman Neugebauer said.

He also stated that no policy can fix the problem if it is not enforced. "I know I sound like a broken record but we're going to have to start enforcing the law." He followed by saying "unfortunately, the American people elected a president not once, but twice that will not enforce the law. In fact, in many cases people think [Obama] disregards the law."

Regardless of the chosen course of action, one thing is certain. As Congressman Neugebauer said, "we're going to have to accelerate our efforts here."
