City Council Candidate Jim Gerlt Wants Full-Time Mayor and Council
Jim Gerlt is the executive pastor of Bacon Heights Baptist Church. And now, he is a candidate for the council, district 4. He is challenging incumbent Paul Beane.
On Lubbock’s First News on KFYO, Gerlt said he would like to change the way the council works.
“I think we ought to look, at some
point in the future, changing the city charter, where we go with -- like the county commissioners -- like it is in the metropolitan areas, where it is a mayor and council who basically does it. They get paid for it.”
Question: You’re talking about a strong mayor, full-time mayor, full-time council members with a full-time salary?
Answer: Yes.
Gerlt does not support allowing a mayor or council member to vote himself or herself a raise.
