In 2020, it was shortages on toilet paper, paper towels, cleaning supplies, and outdoor equipment from pools to camping gear. We entered 2021 hoping to turn the page, and in some ways we have. COVID-19 numbers are dropping, and those who are vaccinated have more freedom. But the shortages continue.

Lumber is in short supply, as are other building materials. Chlorine for pools is reportedly running low, and a shortage of computer chips have led to a shortage of electronics and new cars. Some states are also seeing a shortage in gasoline for their cars.

Last week, we learned that there was also a national chicken shortage, and then the devastating news yesterday. Chick-fil-A has announced a nationwide shortage of their sauces.

News quickly spread from coast to coast that one of the top fast food companies in the world would be limiting how much sauce customers can have, if sauce is even available.

Around lunchtime today, I checked the Chick-fil-A app to see if the shortage had impacted Lubbock, and sadly, I can report that it has. Of the Chick-fil-A sauces normally offered, only two remained as options: the original Chick-fil-A sauce, and Polynesian. Both were very limited.

If you were wondering how many packets of sauce you are allowed, according to Chick-fil-A, customers are limited to one sauce per entrée, two sauce packets per meal, and three sauce packets for a 30-count order of chicken nuggets. Three sauces for 30 chicken nuggets? How does that even work? You can't get a good dip that way.

There is no word yet on how long the shortage will last, but one thing's for sure: if any company can get through it with a smile, it's Chick-fil-A.
