While Greg Abbott talks jobs in Texas, Wendy Davis continues to sling mud in her campaign. Lots of questions remain over the involvement of the U.S. Military and its fight against ISIS.  Here is your Morning Brief for the morning of September 24, 2014.

Davis Attacks Abbott... Again

Wendy Davis launched even more attacks against Greg Abbott on Tuesday in her campaign to become the next Governor in Texas. According to the Dallas Morning News, Davis attacked Abbott for something he never said.

State Sen. Wendy Davis on Tuesday unleashed a blistering attack on rival Greg Abbott, saying the GOP nominee for governor supports policies that are hostile toward Texas women.

“The last thing Texas women need in their lives is Greg Abbott,” Davis said during a luncheon sponsored by Annie’s List, a group that supports progressive women candidates.

Davis, the Democratic nominee for governor, said that Abbott does not support equal pay for women, has ruled against rape survivors when he was on the Texas Supreme Court and stood by as a “surrogate” described incest and rape as minor issues for women considering abortion.

“If Greg Abbott spent some time in the place of those women he is so-called guarding …, maybe he’d understand how rape is not a minor issue,” she said.

Davis slammed Abbott over a comment made by Republican consultant Matt Mackowiak on Sunday’s edition of KXAS (NBC5) Lone Star Politics. In explaining why Davis had a problem in Texas because of her support for abortion rights, Mackowiak described exceptions to abortion bans for rapes and incest as minor issues.

Mackowiak does not work for Abbott’s campaign. He says he is not a surrogate. He was invited on Lone Star Politics to provide commentary on last week’s debate between Davis and Abbott.

Still, Davis pressed her attack.

“It’s time to beat back the ignorance and contempt that closed down women’s health centers all across our state,” she said.

I watched the clip of Mackowiak on the show and he never said that rape or incest was a minor issue. He was talking about how cases of rape and incest make up a minor percentage of abortions. The Davis campaign of course took his words out of context and are somehow connecting them to Greg Abbott. Desperate times for the Davis campaign.

A Sustained Campaign

Many questions are being asked about America's war against the Islamic State. According to FOX News, military officials are calling this a "sustained campaign" against ISIS.

Some already see the war against the Islamic State, or ISIS, as an engagement that could last years, and could fall to President Obama's successor to finish.

"The fact is, Islamic terrorism is out to destroy us ... and the war is only going to end when they are defeated," Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., told Fox News, suggesting the "war" was never over in the first place. "And this may well go on for a number of years. In fact, in many ways it's been going on for 20 years."

In Capitol Hill hearings and press briefings last week, in advance of the Syria strikes, the American public got their first full glimpse of the questions raised by the expanded intervention.

Among them:

How much will it cost?

How will ground troops be used, and how many will be required?

Does Congress need to formally approve the expanded mission?

The latter question is resurfacing in the wake of Monday's airstrikes. While some influential lawmakers have backed the administration's claim that it does not need congressional approval, a mix of Democrats and Republicans say otherwise.

While many questions still need to be answered, it is about time the U.S. takes action against these extremist.
