Jennie Hill, Executive Director for CASA of the South Plains spoke to KFYO about the need for more people to become advocates for foster children.

CASA stands for Court Appointed Special Advocates. Hill said of CASA, “The mission of the agency is to recruit, train and support volunteers who are community members just like you or I that we train to work with abused or neglected children in the foster care system.”

Those wishing to volunteer must be over the age of 21-years old and will undergo a background and screening process. There are 30 hours of initial training to understand the system and volunteers completing training will be sworn in by a judge.

Training in Levelland takes place August 20 over the course of four evening at First United Methodist Church of Levelland at 1011 Houston Street.
