You know, Canada's given us some pretty good stuff. There's maple syrup, Canadian bacon, and pretty soon, they may be giving us the cure for HIV.

In Ontario, the Food and Drug Administration has given approval for Canadian researchers to begin testing a new HIV vaccine on humans. The vaccine uses a approach similar to the one used to create the polio, influenza and hepatitis vaccines. It uses HIV viruses that have been killed, and then genetically modified to be safe. This is the only HIV vaccine currently in development in Canada, and if the tests are successful, we could see the HIV vaccine on the market in about 5 years.

This could be a major breakthrough in the fight against HIV and AIDS and I really hope these tests are successful. Plus, it'll give all the Canadians out there something to be proud of other than hockey.
