The South By Southwest Music and Media Conference and Music Festival (SXSW) announced today that Bruce Springsteen will be the keynote speaker for next year's event.

The SXSW keynote will take place on March 15, 2012 at the Austin Convention Center.

According to SXSW, Springsteen joins notable keynote alumni at the annual event including Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Lucinda Williams, Robert Plant, Pete Townshend, Smokey Robinson and Neil Young.

Next year's SXSW Music festival will take place March 13-18 and it will showcase more than 2,000 acts from around the world at dozens of stages throughout downtown Austin.

Springsteen and his E Street Band hit the road next year for a worldwide tour.
