According to lonelyplanet.com, October and March and the best months for all you aspiring musicians out there. The state's two largest music festivals happen to fall within these times: South by Southwest and Austin City Limits.
South by Southwest, or SXSW, is a massive event in March that showcases not only Texas' best and brightest in the world of film and TV, but their reach is worldwide with artists coming from all different backgrounds and roots.
Austin City Limits, however, occurs each year in October that highlights the top names in music while providing entertainment beyond the sweet tunes with sweets themselves. Food and dessert is a huge part of ACL and the experience they provide.

Lonelyplanet.com also includes the best time to visit Texas for hiking and holidays. West Texas actually made the cut for it's ideal hiking locations, museums and galleries.
December was the month that seemed best for these excursions. Also, Texans LOVE to drive around and look at other house's decorations during the holidays. Christmas is the perfect opportunity to slowly drive by a stranger's house and spy on their decorations... but not in a creepy way.
April and September were listed as the best times to pick wildflowers as they bloom. Perfect photo ops or just for riding your bike with some beautiful scenery. Viva Texas!
