His hit years began with his album Silk Degrees in 1976. He worked on this album with the session musicians that later formed the band Toto. This album was nominated for Album of the Year at the Grammys and reached the number two spot on the Billboard 200. His song "Lowdown" won the Grammy Award for Best R&B Song after selling over 1 million copies in the U.S.
Since his hit album in 1976, Scaggs has continued making music, touring and working on other projects. Some of those projects included the New York Rock and Soul Revue, His Greatest Hits Live DVD and CD, and the opening of his nightclub, Slim's.
