One of Lubbock's most artistic and entertaining places has just received a very prestigious certification. The Lubbock Entertainment and Performing Arts Association (LEPAA) has announced that the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) was awarded to the Buddy Holly Hall of Performing Arts and Sciences. This certification, developed by the U.S. Green Building Council, is used as the green building rating system internationally and is a symbol of excellence. Buildings that earn this award are said to improve environmental and human health in an effort to make the world more sustainable.

In a press release LEPAA stated that

Certification is proof that buildings are going above and beyond to ensure the space is constructed and operated to the highest level of sustainability. The goal of LEED certification is to create better buildings that reduce contribution to global climate change, enhance individual human health, protect and restore water resources, protect and enhance biodiversity and ecosystem services, promote sustainable and regenerative material cycles, and enhance community quality of life.

The way that the Buddy Holly Hall was able to earn the Green Building Certification is through its various practices during building that would allow the building to run better. This means sustainable site development, energy efficiency, indoor environmental quality, water savings and material selection which allows the building to operate more sustainable and comfortably for patrons.
