Tuesday on Lubbock's First News, Dee Eller, Account Executive and Group Benefits Manager, and Jana Brown, Agent of Individual Services, from Ashmore and Associates Insurance Agency talked about the effects of the implementation of the Affordable Care Act and difficulty with the website.

The two offered insight and some general ideas of what can be done to get different insurance options, as well as how the changes have affected different groups of people. Eller said, "at the end of the day, it changes daily. We can barely keep up with anything other than the law as it is written and instruction, guidance, direction from the carriers." Brown observed that the majority of Texas Insurance providers have already made the adjustment to allow people to continue with their current providers. She noted those who will need to find a plan are those that make up the Texas insurance risk pool, that is closing. These are the people that will benefit more from the changes, because they were unable to get coverage before. She also noted that, under current law, once an individual has left a plan, they cannot return to it. However, they did say there are many insurance options for different individuals that can be reasonable, although affordable differs for the individual. Brown said, "for the majority of our clients, it is advantageous to stay on the plan they have, even if they're seeing some increases."
